Washington, D.C. , Mayor Muriel Bowser announced on Tuesday that she is not running for reelection in 2026, giving the green light to district councilmembers waiting in the wings to launch their own mayoral runs.
The two most prominent district leaders reportedly mulling a run are D.C. Councilmember At-Large Kenyan McDuffie , an independent, and Councilmember Janeese Lewis George, a democratic socialist.
