One day after adding a player to its next recruiting class, Michigan State lost another.

Quinn Buckey, a 2026 three-star offensive lineman from Liberty High School in Bakersfield, Calif., announced his decommitment from the Spartans via social media on Wednesday.

That news came after Michigan State on Tuesday landed a commitment from Rai’shawn Elmore, a 2026 three-star wide receiver from Porter Ridge High School in Indian Trail, N.C.

Buckey backing off a verbal pledge made in June comes amid speculation about second-year coach Jonathan Smith’s job security.
