BRIDGEPORT, MI – Bridgeport-Spaulding Community School District Superintendent Mark Whelton announced this week that he has been placed on administrative leave by the district’s board of education, which is currently facing several recall petitions.

ABC 12 reports the board made the decision during a meeting on Friday, Nov. 21, initially meant to address a proposed school safety grant with the board’s lawyer, according to a statement from Whelton.

Whelton said Amy Morales, the president of the board, recessed the meeting and held a private conversation with the lawyer in the hallway outside of the meeting room at Bridgeport Township Hall, according to the statement obtained by ABC 12.
