CORNWALL – Cornwall enters Friday’s Class A state football semifinal playoff game against undefeated Rye in a rare position: The underdog.

However, don’t expect the Green Dragons (9-2) to back down when the powerhouses meet at 6 p.m. at Faller Field in Middletown.

Cornwall reached the semifinals with a thrilling 34-28 win over Niskayuna in the first round last weekend. Meanwhile, Rye (12-0) took out Section 9 champion Minisink Valley 42-14. Rye averages 42 points per game and has been held under 35 points just once all season.

Meanwhile, Cornwall prides itself on defense, giving up under 10 points per game. Rye is led by senior quarterback Carson Miller, who has passed for 2,962 yards and 32 touchdowns with seven interceptions. He has rushed for 810 yards and 10 scores.
