ATLANTA — With drivers hitting the road for the Thanksgiving holiday, the Georgia Department of Transportation has a message. For five years, GDOT has been driving home the Keep It Clean campaign . Spokeswoman Natalie Dale said GDOT spends around $10 million a year keeping roads clear.
"We wanted to take a bigger role in spreading the word, changing the behaviors of littering in Georgia," Dale said. "Our maintenance crews are out there every week doing litter pickup, trash pickup with thousands of bags a year we're picking up in litter."
Dale said litter and debris can quickly pile up, causing environmental and safety concerns for drivers.
