If Stephen Welsh continues to play the way he is then surely he has to be knocking on Steve Clarke’s Scotland door.
The on-loan Celtic defender has been a standout for Motherwell this season, so far. The 25-year-old cruised through Tuesday’s win against Hibs, while one of Clarke’s defensive stalwarts, Grant Hanley, was sent for an early bath.
Welsh has been excellent for Jens Berthel Askou’s side. It has helped with the way the Dane has got Motherwell playing, the best and most exciting football in the Premiership. It has really seen Welsh come to the fore.
Motherwell play from the back and that suits Welsh who is comfortable and composed on the ball. His play is pretty much the perfect-fit for the current Motherwell game plan.
