ATLANTA — Pete Skandalakis, the executive director of the Prosecuting Attorneys Council of Georgia, who appointed himself this month to oversee the 2020 election interference case involving President Donald Trump and other defendants, has dropped the charges in the case.

Skandalakis on Wednesday filed a motion to "nolle prosequi," or not prosecute, in the case, to "serve the interests of justice and promote judicial finality."

That motion was granted in a one-page order by Judge Scott McAfee. The once-historic Fulton County election interference case would has come to an end.

"The State having moved for an entry of nolle prosequi for all remaining defendants, the Court grants the motion," the order stated. "The case is hereby dismissed in its entirety."
