A Midcoast Maine community is mourning the death a 12-year-old boy who was hit by a school bus while crossing a street on Friday.
Brayden Callahan was struck around 2:20 p.m. as he crossed in front of a school bus for the Regional School Unit 13 system in Rockland, a city on Penobscot Bay, officials and his family wrote on Facebook.
He was flown to Maine Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
The bus driver was convicted of operating under the influence in 2015 and in early October struck the side of a parked car with his bus, the Portland Press Herald reported.
The driver has been placed on administrative leave while law enforcement officials investigate the crash, officials said.
