Retired Judge Barnes confirms candidacy for District 1 Dare Commissioner’s seat

UPDATE: The Republican primary contest for the District 1 Dare Commissioners seat in 2026 is getting crowded fast. Retired District Court Judge Edgar Barnes has confirmed that he plans to seek that seat next year. Barnes retired from the bench at the beginning of 2025.

UPDATE:In an email to the Voice, incumbent District 1 Commissioner Mike Burrus confirmed that “I will be running for re-election” for that seat in 2026.
