Larimer County was awarded a $9,856,000 grant for the Protecting the Gateway to the Rockies wildfire defense project, which will help wildfire mitigation efforts in Estes Park and areas along the Big Thompson Canyon.
The award was provided through the Community Wildfire Defense Grant program, a $200 million investment from the US Department of Agriculture Forest Service into 58 community wildfire defense projects across the country. The grant will fund the Larimer County project for five years, according to a county press release.
The wildfire defense project is an initiative of the Big Thompson Watershed Health Partnership, a team of local, state and federal organizations dedicated to reducing wildfire risk and protecting the Big Thompson watershed, according to the press release. The L
