LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - Authorities believe a man wanted for murder in St. Landry Parish may be in the Lake Charles area.
A St. Landry Parish grand jury indicted Benjamin Phillip Baquet, 30, on Nov. 21 on a count of second-degree murder in the death of a young child, according to a release from St. Landry District Attorney Chad Pitre.
Baquet was arrested in 2017 on a count of second-degree cruelty to juveniles after the then-7-week-old infant was hospitalized for injuries, including brain bleeding, a broken right clavicle, bruises, respiratory arrest, and hemorrhages.
Doctors said the child’s death stemmed from “shaken baby syndrome.” St. Landry authorities said the baby’s mother and two DCFS social workers reported that Baquet admitted to them he shook the baby.
