AGAWAM — Starting next month, motorists on Route 187 will hit the brakes in southern Feeding Hills.
The current two-way stop on Barry Street will turn into a four-way stop, with traffic on Pine Street (Route 187) also stopping. The new signs will include solar-powered red LED lights for visibility.
Agawam Public Works Superintendent Mario Mazza said on Monday that several safety studies by the Pioneer Valley Planning Commission and Massachusetts Department of Transportation have recommended improving the crossroad, which is about 1,000 feet from the Connecticut state line.
At the Sept. 2 meeting when the City Council approved the project, Councilor Edward P. Borgatti applauded the planned stop signs.
