The Simon Fraser University Red Leafs are following through with coming back to Canada.

SFU athletics announced on its website Wednesday morning that it will seek readmission to U Sports and its Canada West Conference to “ensure the long-term sustainability of varsity sport at SFU” and, if accepted, will compete in regular-season competition against the likes of the University of B.C. Thunderbirds and the Trinity Western Spartans beginning in the 2027-28 season.

SFU had been in Canada West for 10 years before leaving for NCAA Div. II in 2010. They’re currently the lone Canadian member of the NCAA.

Wednesday’s statement says that they expect to hear back whether they’ve been accepted into U Sports and Canada West by next spring at the earliest. There’s been no word out of SFU what they m
