[DES MOINES, Iowa] — The Iowa State Patrol is actively working to reduce the number of deadly crashes in the state by the end of the year.
As of now, there have been 248 deadly crashes across Iowa, marking the lowest number at this time of year since 2020. Troopers are striving to keep the annual total below 300. Achieving this would be a milestone, as it would be the first time in 100 years that the number has been under this mark.
Sgt. Alex Dinkla of the Iowa State Patrol noted that traffic deaths have decreased by 24 percent compared to 2024. He attributes much of this reduction to a new state driving law designed to prevent phone use while driving.
