LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - Child abuse advocates say the holiday season, while filled with family gatherings and celebrations, presents a critical opportunity to recognize signs of abuse that might otherwise go unnoticed.
The Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC) says abuse can manifest in multiple forms, including physical, emotional and through possible human trafficking situations.
Dr. Severita Sanchez, executive director of the CAC Laredo-Webb County, said behaviors that adults might dismiss as typical childhood actions could actually signal a child’s plea for help.
“If that child tells you, ‘Mom, I don’t wanna be in the same room with my cousin or his friends.’ Respect your child. Don’t think they’re being spoiled. Maybe there’s something that they haven’t told you,” Sanchez said. “Keep thos
