The court has allowed an even greater partisan gerrymander by the state’s Republicans in an evenly divided state to be put in place than the earlier partisan gerrymander (in part, because the Supreme Court in 2019 held that federal courts cannot hear constitutional challenges to partisan gerrymandering).
Although plaintiffs in the case will have the option to seek an injunction pending appeal from the Supreme Court, which would suspend the use of the new maps in 2026, there would be slim odds that the Court would take up that invitation.
