Whether those panels will actually redraw the maps remains an open question, said Bryna Godar, an attorney with the State Democracy Research Initiative at the University of Wisconsin Law School. Timing will be a challenge. While the cases were filed this summer, the court spent months weighing this procedural step.
“Had stuff started moving more quickly, it would have been more conceivable to have maps in place,” Godar said. “I don’t think it’s impossible at this point depending on how quickly the panels act, but … it will be a tight timeline.”
