What we know
We know that two National Guard members were shot two blocks northwest of the White House.
A suspect who was in custody was also shot and had wounds that were not believed to be life-threatening.
According to reports from the Associated Press and other media outlets, investigators believe the suspect is an Afghan national who entered the U.S. in September 2021 and has been living in Washington state. That's according to two law enforcement officials and a person familiar with the matter, the AP reported.
