WASHINGTON — Immigration authorities have detained a relative of White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt as part of the Trump administration’s intensified immigration enforcement efforts, according to multiple reports.
CNN and NBC News confirmed that a relative of Leavitt’s, the mother of her nephew, was taken into custody in Revere, Massachusetts, earlier this month. Immigration and Customs Enforcement identified the woman as Bruna Caroline Ferreira, a Brazilian national.
A source familiar with the detention told CNN that Leavitt’s nephew has lived full time in New Hampshire with his father, Michael Leavitt, since he was born. Ferreira and the White House press secretary have not spoken in years, according to CNN.
