Premier François Legault and Quebec’s federation of family doctors are officially returning to the negotiating table and may amend the province’s controversial health-care reform.

The news comes after Legault met with the Fédération des médecins omnipraticiens du Québec (FMOQ) in Quebec City on Tuesday to discuss the new health-care legislation, known as Bill 2.

In a joint email statement from Legault and FMOQ president Marc-André Amyot on Wednesday evening, the two leaders said discussions will resume “immediately.”

“If an agreement is reached, the government would accept amendments to Bill 2, knowing that part of family doctors’ remuneration remains conditional on taking on an increased number of Quebecers,” the statement said.

This report will be updated.
