MANCHESTER, N.H. —
Recently elected mayors on the Seacoast and in the Lakes Region are hoping for a surge in homebuilding next year to add housing capacity in a tight market.
Chuck Grassie, the new mayor-elect of Rochester, said the Lilac City is one of the fastest-growing areas in the state, but there's still not enough housing supply for young, working families, an issue he has experienced personally.
"We had a very discouraging thing recently," Grassie said. "We had to move my grandson to North Carolina because he could not find an apartment up here for less than $3,000. He was working in Boston, wanted something in the southern part of New Hampshire, and there just weren't any apartments for him and his fiancée. They moved to Charlotte, North Carolina.
