COLUMBUS, Ohio — This Thanksgiving is a special one for a Ross County family. A man who served his country more than 80 years ago is home for good.
Generations of Mitchell Hill’s family stood outside Concourse A at John Glenn Columbus International Airport Wednesday, waiting for the 12:30 Southwest Airlines flight from Tampa.
Hill, at age 99, is a U.S. Navy veteran originally from Londonderry, Ohio. He served in WWII in the Pacific on the USS Bushnell, a submarine tender.
Adults and children held signs welcoming Hill back to Ohio. For the youngest in attendance, his great great grandchildren, it was their first time meeting the man they’ve heard about. When Hill crossed security, he was met with greetings, hugs and happy tears.
