RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - Organizers and volunteers with The Giving Heart prepared Wednesday for their 20th annual Thanksgiving feast.

This year the nonprofit is expecting to serve more than 4,000 people Thursday through dine-in service at the Greater Richmond Convention Center, pickup and deliveries.

The event marks the first time people will be able to gather for the feast at the convention center since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

About 40 volunteers showed up Wednesday to cut turkey, bag potatoes and fill cups of cranberry sauce in preparation for Thursday’s meal.

Tara Adams, who has volunteered with the event for about 15 years, said she participates to show her children not to take things for granted.
