Two National Guard members have been critically injured following a shooting in Washington DC.
Emergency services responded to the area near the White House , which was locked down after the incident. The lockdown has since been lifted. At least one helicopter landed on the National Mall. The Metropolitan Police Department confirmed a suspect was taken into custody.
Donald Trump was in Florida when the shooting happened, but White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said he had been briefed about the incident and was monitoring it. In a statement on Truth Social, the US president both Guardsmen were in critical condition. Shortly after, West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey said the Guardsmen were killed. However, he then walked back on his statement, citing "conflicting reports"
