LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - Residents of the Azteca neighborhood could lose access to their only nearby green space if federal border wall construction moves forward as planned.

The City of Laredo confirmed it has received notice from the federal government that the border wall will be built in the gateway city. Current plans call for construction between the Azteca neighborhood and the green space known as Las Palmas.

Jose Ortiz, an Azteca resident and Las Palmas restoration volunteer who has lived in the neighborhood his entire life, said the wall would force residents to find other green spaces across Laredo.
