Former US president Barack Obama has said that "violence has no place in America" following the shooting near the White House in the US.

Barack Obama wrote on social media: “Michelle and I are praying for the service members shot in Washington, DC today, and send our love to their families as they enter this holiday season under the most tragic of circumstances.”

His message comes after the suspected shooter has been identified as an Afghan national . Rahmanullah Lakanwal is a 29-year-old Afghan national who came to the US in 2021.
