DANE COUNTY (WKOW) — As Thanksgiving nears, food pantries across southern Wisconsin report unprecedented demand and a remarkable wave of community support.
In Beloit, Messiah Lutheran Church's food pantry , which opened in 2021, has seen significant growth, according to Carol Wilkins, who helped start the pantry.
"We began our pantry four years ago with 17 cars coming through, and at our most recent pantry, we served 108," she said.
The church now serves about 9,000 people each year.
"It's one thing to have it for yourself, but the best thing you can do is give to others, especially when they're experiencing food depravity," Wilkins added.
