Rescuers on Wednesday morning are searching for a man who authorities believe may have jumped off the Route 72 bridge to Long Beach Island on Tuesday night.
A witness told police a person leaped from the Dorland J. Henderson Memorial Bridge, which travels over Manahawkin Bay and connects Stafford to Ship Bottom on Long Beach Island.
Stafford police officers found an unoccupied gray Toyota Camry at the top of the steel girder bridge. The vehicle is registered to a 19-year-old from Monmouth County.
Helicopters, boats and drones were at the scene on Wednesday searching for the man.
Police request that personal drones not be operated, because they will interfere with the aircraft conducting the search.
