With many returning home for the holiday, Thanksgiving weekend is a busy time for bars. It’s also one of the most dangerous times to be on the road.

Extra police will be on the roads to keep drivers safe.

The number of DUI arrests over Thanksgiving weekend has fallen over the past six years, with 22 in 2024, 30 in 2023, 41 in 2022, 50 in 2021, 29 in 2020 and 52 in 2019.

"If drinking is part of your celebration, it's important that you make a plan before you have the first drink of the night so whether that's planning for a designated driver, you're planning to take a taxi, rideshare service, public transportation, make that plan ahead of time," Eva Zymaris, a spokesperson for the Connecticut Department of Transport
