A banged-up team needing a lift got one from a recent call-up and Jeremy Swayman.
In his ninth game since being called up to the Bruins , rookie forward Alex Steeves scored twice and Swayman made 39 saves and Boston held off the Islanders, 3-1, on Wednesday at UBS Arena.
The Bruins finished the road trip 2-2-0. They return home to face the Rangers at 1 p.m. on Friday.
The Bruins were outshot 11-4 in the first period, but still emerged from the opening 20 minutes tied 1-1.
Bruins nemesis Mathew Barzal put the Islanders up 1-0, 4:41 into the game, taking advantage of a costly giveaway by Matej Blumel.
But Steeves parked himself in front of the net and plucked the rebound off of Ilya Sorokin’s pads and deposited it behind him to make it 1-1, 1:42 later.
