IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) - Three downtown Iowa City businesses owned by Hawkeye Hotel closed permanently by the end of the weekend after the properties failed to sell at auction earlier this month.
Each of the affected businesses—The Chauncey Hotel, SpareMe Bowling and Arcade, and Hotel Vetro—received closure notices last week, according to staff and management, marking a difficult turning point after the failed auction.
On the businesses’ final day of operation, community members like Jackson Witt visited SpareMe Bowling and Arcade with his family, highlighting the impact on patrons.
“It’s kind of sad because this place is really fun,” Witt said.
