ATWATER, Calif. (KFSN) -- Authorities are searching for an inmate who went missing on Wednesday from the United States Penitentiary in Atwater.

Officials say 34-year-old Ruben Martinez-Lopez was discovered missing around 3:30 p.m.

Martinez-Lopez is 5'11" and weighs about 205 pounds.

He has brown hair and brown eyes.

Martinez-Lopez is serving more than 12 years for drug offenses.

The U.S. Marshals Service, FBI and other law enforcement agencies have been notified, and an internal investigation is underway.
