Thanksgiving Day isn’t just about turkey and family—it’s about tradition. And for millions of Americans, that tradition includes football.
From Detroit’s first holiday kickoff in 1934 to Dallas pulling up a chair in 1966, Thanksgiving Day games have become as iconic as pumpkin pie. While those two NFC franchises have remained Turkey Day staples, the NFL has, in recent seasons, added a third game to their Thanksgiving plate.
That has given more teams an opportunity to play on the holiday, and more fans have a reason for turning on the TV set.
Tens of millions will tune in—and one matchup could carve out a new Thanksgiving ratings record.
Here’s what you need to know before grabbing the remote.
