There was a time when Kapaa was the doormat of the Kauai Interscholastic Federation.
Plenty of potential, but none of it came together on the gridiron until Kelii Morgado became head coach, moving over from Kauai High. The Punahou graduate brought a four-wide offensive concept, and over time, the Warriors took command of the KIF.
When Morgado stepped down, Philip Rapozo took over and kept the torch lit before former UH defensive back Mike Tresler took over. Kapaa won its first state championship in 2021 at the Division II level, then moved up to D-I. Kapaa won the D-I state crown last year, edging Konawaena in the final, 10-7.
