Getting wintery Christmas trees to Hawaii families is no easy business. Spare a thought for the hard work your vendors put in as you shop this year — and if at tree pop-up Christmas Hawaii, congratulate retiring owner Paula Tajiri on 50 years of holiday magic.
Paula’s late husband Richard Tajiri was a seasonal fixture under the sales tent, and his influence continues: New owner Marlisa Oshiro and her late husband, Kevin, were mentored by Tajiri, and took over operations of the Tajiris’ Windward Mall tree shop in 2009.
Two more remarkable holiday tree operations: Helemano Farms in Wahiawa, a pick-your-own live tree business; and Habilitat, known for its first-class options at Central Union Church and other locations.
