JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - Ahead of the Thanksgiving feasts, some people decided to lace up their running shoes for a turkey trot in Jacksonville.
Organizers from Onslow Community Outreach say 1,000 people registered to race in the second annual turkey trot at the Jacksonville Commons this morning.
The 5k trot kicked off at 8:30 a.m., followed by the Giblet 1-Miler.
This year’s theme was “Run, Eat, Nap.”
The run raised $30,000 to support the Onslow Christmas Cheer program, which helps provide Christmas meals and gifts to families in need this holiday season.
Organizers say all the money raised is directly given to help provide toys and food to Christmas Cheer.
