The Labour Government is committed to closing asylum seeker hotels by 2029 after a public backlash. A committee of MPs published a report in October revealing that billions of pounds had been “squandered” on asylum accommodation by Home Office mismanagement . ‌

The Home Affairs Committee warned ministers must set out a clear strategy of how to end the “current failed, chaotic and expensive” system. New figures reveal the number of asylum seekers housed in hotels in Scotland, broken down by local area. ‌
