WASHINGTON — The man authorities believe shot two West Virginia National Guard troops in an ambush attack near the White House had ties to the United States government during the War in Afghanistan, U.S. Attorney for D.C. Jeanine Pirro alleged on Thursday.
Rahmanullah Lakanwal, 29, who immigrated to the United States from Afghanistan in 2021, was identified as the shooting suspect by law enforcement sources.
CIA Director John Ratcliffe confirmed Lakanwal's connection to the U.S. government in a statement to CBS News on Thursday, saying the shooting suspect had been a member of a partner force until the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021.
