JEFFERSON PARISH, La. — A 68-year-old man died early Thursday morning inside the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center, according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office.
Deputies said a security check around 4 a.m. found the man unresponsive in the jail’s Intake Booking area. Medical staff and Gretna paramedics tried to revive him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, a release said.
The man was being held as a fugitive from another jurisdiction and had been booked into the jail on Nov. 21.
Investigators said they don’t suspect foul play at this time. The Jefferson Parish Coroner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
