Repairs are being carried out to a combined sewer in a Suffolk seaside town, which has collapsed leaking foul-smelling water onto a path in seafront gardens.

The sewer is in Felixstowe's Spa Gardens close to holiday chalets and the Cliff Top Cafe and last week a trail of brown water could be seen leaking from the drain cover and along the footpath down towards the promenade.

An East Suffolk Council spokesperson said: “The council is aware of the issues reported in the Spa Gardens.

"Following the area being fenced off for the safety of the public, the council’s contractors have started work this morning (November 26) to repair the collapsed combined sewer.

"This work is expected to be completed this week and following its completion the area will be fully cleaned.”
