CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — An 18-year-old Fairmont man came to a figurative fork in the road on Thanksgiving Day at the southbound Interstate 79 rest area in Harrison County.
That's when Charles Jonathan Roach had the chance to pull over and probably face a misdemeanor DUI charge — but instead, he allegedly took off like a bat out of hell and is now facing two felony charges that could send him to prison for years, according to court records.
Roach, 18, of Fairmont, pleaded not guilty during his initial appearance Thursday before Harrison Chief Magistrate Frank DeMarco to fleeing with reckless indifference (possible one to five years) and fleeing under the influence (possible one to 10 years.
Roach is presumed innocent. DeMarco set his bond at $10,000 10/90.
