WASHINGTON — West Virginia Gov. Patrick Morrisey arrived in Washington on Thursday to receive real-time updates on two West Virginia National Guard members who remain in very critical condition after being ambushed and shot near the White House, meeting with their families and state troops stationed in the nation’s capital.
Morrisey said he visited the Guardsmen late Wednesday and again Thursday morning alongside West Virginia Adjutant General Jim Seward. He urged residents to pray for the soldiers, calling the attack “an unspeakable tragedy.”
“These two Guardsmen voluntarily stepped up and risked everything for our state and nation — they are our protectors and some of the most courageous West Virginians you could possibly imagine,” he said.
