Newcastle United's biggest strength at the start of the season was the quality of their defending.

The Magpies kept five clean sheets in their first seven Premier League games and they have also recorded three shutouts in the Champions League, too.

But in recent weeks individual errors, particularly away from home, have crept into their game and it has started to affect results.

And when analysing Newcastle's recent 2-1 defeat to Marseille in the Champions League, Stephen Warnock highlighted how poor their defensive shape was at times.
