OCALA, Fla. (WCJB) - For the sixth time, community activists Larry Johnson and Phyllis Ambrose gathered volunteers to the corner of Highway 40 and Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. to hand out free Thanksgiving meals for the homeless.
Johnson grew up near Carver Park, where the event got it’s start and said giving back to the community that shaped him is a blessing.
“This is the community that helped raise us, so why not give back to the community that helped raise you?,” said Johnson “And to get where you are in life like I said we cant really worry about tomorrow but we have to worry about today and today is feeding these homeless people.”
All of the Thanksgiving favorites were on the menu today from rolls and turkey to freshly baked pies.
