A major police response was sparked earlier today in Northumberland after a man failed to appear at court . Officers were seen searching in an wooded area of Prudhoe just off the A695 near Castlefields Drive and Haggs Bank shortly after midday.

A National Police Air Service helicopter was also deployed to help in the search along with the force's dogs, with officers remaining in the area for several hours. However it is understood the man has since fled the area.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "At around 12.35pm today (Thursday), police on duty in the Prudhoe area sighted a person of interest near to the retail park, just off the A695. Officers searched for the man, who was understood to be wanted for failing to appear at court.
