A preliminary 4.3 magnitude earthquake struck Thursday in the South Bay, near San Juan Bautista, according to the United States Geological Survey .
The temblor was reported at 12:57 p.m. and centered about 3 miles south of San Juan Bautista in San Benito County, the USGS said.
The quake followed a 3.9 magnitude shaker centered in the same general area at 12:48 p.m., the USGS said. Earlier, a 2.7 magnitude quake was recorded in the same general area.
Residents in nearby Gilroy reported feeling the quakes, but no injuries or damage were immediately reported.
