Premier Doug Ford is blasting the city of Toronto over its concerns the new road signs the province has supplied to replace pole-mounted speed cameras are too big and ill-fitting.
Ford outlawed speed cameras earlier this month, saying they were a “cash grab” on drivers, despite weeks of pleading by mayors , researchers and families to improve the provincial legislation rather than eliminate it.
On Wednesday, Mayor Olivia Chow , along with councillors in Ottawa, said the 80 new temporary signs for 20 of Toronto’s school zones that had permanent speed cameras are too big and don’t fit on standard city poles. Meanwhile, council members in Brampton flagged that the new signs might block sightlines to pedestrians or other important signage.
