A couple hundred former players and coaches from the Pitman and Clayton High School Thanksgiving Day football rivalry made their way to midfield prior to Thursday’s game.

Then it was time for the current players to take the field and add their name to a tradition that reached a significant milestone - the 100th holiday meeting between the small-school teams.

Both stands were packed and other spectators lined the fences for the annual game - one of the last in the state that continues to play on Thanksgiving.

With the expansion of state playoffs in recent years - meaning the regular season ends in late October - more and more schools have made the decision to forego playing on Thanksgiving. Pitman and Clayton play one of just 17 games remaining around the state .
