A strong magnitude 6.0 earthquake shook Southcentral Alaska on Thanksgiving morning, sending noticeable ground shaking across the Mat-Su Valley, Anchorage, and the Kenai Peninsula, with reports of the tremor being felt hundreds of miles away, as far north as Fairbanks.

The earthquake struck around 8:11 a.m. and was centered southwest of Willow, deep beneath the earth’s surface. Because the quake originated at significant depth, the shaking was spread across a wide area, rather than being concentrated in one single community.
