Chatham-Kent police are reassuring the public after concerns were raised about crime and social disorder in the downtown core.
Communities across Ontario are experiencing a rise in calls related to mental health crisis, trespassing and addiction-related behaviour, with the municipality being no exception, police said in a recent news release.

While these calls are increasing in volume and complexity, police called it “important to note that enforcement alone is not an effective or sustainable solution.
“We acknowledge the frustration residents feel when disorder is visible, and the perceived decline in safety. Officers remain committed to public safety and will act decisively when criminal behaviour occurs.”
